TSnews GARDEN PLAIN – Animals at the Kingman County Humane Society (KCHS) are getting some extra care and attention thanks to one Garden Plain youth. Rory Weber, age 9, is partnering with a staff member at the humane society to raise money for the shelter animals.

GARDEN PLAIN – Garden Plain Elementary students have shown themselves to be heart heroes. Through their efforts and the support of their parents, relatives and friends, the school collected $14,420.11 for the American Heart Association.

CHENEY – Sofie Schendel of Cheney was recently awarded a fullride scholarship to SMU Dedman School of Law by The Sumners Foundation of Irving, Texas. Scholarships are awarded by the Foundation based on civic engagement, academic excellence, a capacity for leadership, and a desire to further our democracy.

Something I probably haven’t mentioned often is that I have a constant helper in the kitchen when I try recipes for this column. Sometimes she gets to sample something, and sometimes she is informed that the particular creation at hand is “not good for puppies.” Regardless, our 15-yearold schnauzer, K.C., hopefully follows me around the kitchen or gazes at me from a good napping spot, hoping I will be clumsy enough to drop something or gracious enough to share.

ARGONIA – Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) has announced that Maya Jones, a senior at Argonia High School, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship on April 24 at WEC’s annual meeting in Great Bend.
