Police officers from the Conway Springs and Clearwater police departments took part in a Monday vehicle chase that covered two counties and included shots fired by a law enforcement officer.
The 25-mile police chase involved a stolen SUV that was identified by Flock cameras in Wellington. The Wellington Police Department started the chase around 3 p.m., but called off the chase.
Conway Springs police officers picked up the chase, and Clearwater police officers joined in.
A stop stick was deployed as the stolen vehicle was south of Clearwater. The back of the SUV was damaged. The driver then drove at an officer in an attempt to hit the officer’s vehicle.
Clearwater police chief Kirk Ives confirmed to KSN TV that shots were fired during the chase, but he could not provide other details.
The driver of the SUV eventually lost control of the vehicle, as the chase ended in a rollover crash near 111th Street South and 119th Street West, which is abut 1 mile south and one mile east of Clearwater.
There were three occupants in the vehicle: an 18-year-old male who was driving, a 16-year-old female, and a 16-month old child. The 16-year-old female suffered a minor arm injury, according to media reports.
The driver was booked on multiple charges, including aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, aggravated endangerment of a child, criminal use of weapons, driving on a suspended or revoked license, and two counts of stolen property.
