GODDARD – Jacob McCarty, Eisenhower High School senior, has received the Goddard Woman’s Club President’s Award for Student Leadership.
Gail Jamison, Goddard Woman’s Club president, presented the award to McCarty at Eisenhower High School on Dec. 9.
“This first, inaugural award was inspired by Jacob, and recognizes him for exemplary leadership. Jacob demonstrates a commitment to making a positive difference in his school and community. He advocates to ensure all students’ voices are heard,” said Jamison.”
In recognition of the inaugural President’s Leadership Award, the Goddard Public Library will partner with the Woman’s Club to commemorate a book in McCarty’s honor. Attending the presentation were school district representatives, Goddard Woman’s Club members, the Goddard Public Library director, and McCarty’s parents, Drs. Andrea and Dan McCarty.
McCarty was a past recipient of a Goddard Woman’s Club HOBY scholarship for the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership summer seminar for sophomore students held at Kansas State University. Since that time, he has continued to support HOBY Kansas as a junior staff member.
HOBY is a non-profit organization started in 1958 by actor Hugh O’Brian to help young people build leadership skills, with a mission to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY has become one of the foremost youth leadership development programs and has affiliate programs in all 50 states. In 1968 HOBY expanded leadership programs internationally.
