Roughly three dozen teams took part in the early-season Bishop Carroll baker’s tournament, held over the weekend at West Acres Bowl.
The Campus girls, who placed second in the 6A State tournament last year after a string of State-championship performances, battled at the top and eventually placed fourth. The Colts scored 2305, coming in 73 points behind champion Wichita Northwest. The top teams were Northwest, Garden City, Great Bend and Campus, and were the only teams to score over 2300. No other team scored higher than 2175.
The Eisenhower girls scored 2153 and placed sixth. Goddard finished 12th, scoring 1869.
On the boys side, Eisenhower had the best local finish. The Tigers scored 2607 and placed fourth. Northwest won the tournament with a score of 2831.
Campus was 11th with a 2335 score, and Goddard scored 2313 and placed 14th.
On Monday, Goddard swept Valley Center in a dual at Newton. The Lions boys won 2539-2276, and the GHS girls won 2106-1785.

Also Monday, the Cheney girls were second in a triangular with Mulvane and El Dorado. The scores were: Mulvane 1556, Cheney 1407, El Dorado 1378.
The Cheney boys (2233) finished behind Mulvane (2518) and El Dorado (2375). Only 42 pins separated El Dorado and Cheney.
