Marceline ‘Connie’ Friedel

Marcelene “Connie” (Konkel) Friedel, 84, of Haysville, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022, in Wichita.
Connie was born the daughter of Joseph and Sylvia Menges on Sept. 29, 1937, in Wichita. Connie graduated from Cathedral High School in 1955 in Wichita. Connie and Chuck Konkel were united in marriage on June 25, 1955, in Wichita. He passed on March 23, 1998. Connie was strong in her Catholic faith and was a founding member of St. Cecilia Parish in Haysville. She was a current member of St. Anne Catholic Church, where she met and married her second husband, Leonard Friedel, on May 24, 2008. He passed on April 9, 2022.
The true joy in her life was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. Over the years she enjoyed many hobbies, flowers, bird watching, reading and sewing. Her favorite response when she didn’t want to do something you were trying to convince her to do was “you are not the boss of me,” which she learned from a spunky grandchild. She was very generous with her time, talent and treasure. There was always room for one more.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sylvia Menges; first husband, Chuck Konkel; second husband, Leonard Friedel; son, Brian Friedel; siblings, Dave Menges, Junior Menges, and Kay Douglas, and baby sister; Donna Sue Menges; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Steve (Kristi) Konkel of Cordova, Tenn., Shirley (Richard) Greene of Haysville, Sam (DeAnn) Konkel of Haysville, Sally (Randy) Thomasson of Forest Grove, Ore., Shawn (Pat) Konkel of Haysville, Suzie (Carl) Compton of Derby, Sheila Konkel of Wichita, Mike (Becky) Friedel of Kansas City, Tim (Leslie) Friedel of Basehor, Chris Friedel of Wichita, Robert (Barbara) Friedel of Wichita, Pat (Lora) Friedel of Wichita, Bev (Greg) Marler of Augusta, Ron Friedel of Wichita, Lance (Tami) Friedel of Andover, Tina (Jeff) Shank of Maize, and Curtis Friedel of Wichita,; longtime friend, Jan Orth of Wichita; an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Jan Morse, Chuck Menges, Bob Menges, Mike Menges, and Butch Menges; and in-laws, Ron Konkel, Gary Konkel, Adele Anderson, and Mary Ellen Konkel.
