The Argonia Raiders girls basketball team hit a bit of a slump last week, losing to South Haven 38-14 last Tuesday and 46-31 to Flinthills last Friday.
Argonia started slow against Flinthills, trailing 14-5 after the first quarter and 20-9 at the intermission. The Raiders trailed 36-18 by the start of the final period.
“The Flinthills game was a fairly well played game, and we were within five in the second half – but Flinthills went on an 8-0 run and we didn’t hit our shots down the stretch,” Argonia coach Dixie Brewster said. “We turned the ball over a few times, but I thought we actually played well for most of the game because our hustle was tremendous.”
Chelsea Coleman paced the Raiders with 14 points, while Maya Jones added 12, 10 of those coming in the second half.
The Raiders played host to Caldwell earlier this week and were at Cedar Vale/Dexter Wednesday, after TSNews went to press. Argonia heads to West Elk Friday before coming home to play Sedan Monday. The Raiders finish the regular season Tuesday at Classical.
Argonia (vs. Flinthills): Chelsea Coleman 14, Maya Jones 12, Abigail Harbin 3, Heidi McCurley 2.

At South Haven last Tuesday, the Raiders were shut out in the first half and trailed the host Cardinals 14-0 at the intermission. Argonia scored five points, all by Coleman, in the third, but trailed 29-5 by the beginning of the fourth quarter.
“The South Haven game was a good defensive game for us and we definitely played better offensively in the second half,” Brewster said. “South Haven was very physical and their pressure defense affected our shooting.”
Argonia (vs. South Haven): Chelsea Coleman 11, Brenna Booker 3.
