The Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team was unable to sustain a recent string of success last week, losing 52-39 to Wichita Trinity last Tuesday and 48-35 to Kingman three days later in a pair of Central Plains League matchups.
“We played hard in both games,” Conway Springs coach Sheri Mercer said. “Unfortunately we just couldn’t get the ball to fall for us last week.”
At Kingman last Friday, the Cardinals led 10-8 after the opening period behind six points from Caitlyn May, but the score was tied at 15 by the intermission. The host Eagles outscored Conway Springs 13-5 in the third to take a 28-20 lead to the fourth quarter. Despite seven points from Melissa Ebenkamp in the final period, the Cardinals could not mount a comeback.
May finished the game with 10 points, while Ebenkamp added nine in the loss and also had seven rebounds and five steals. Haylee Osner added seven points and seven rebounds in the loss.
The Cardinals made the trip to Wichita independent earlier this week and host Belle Plaine on Friday.
