Eugene D. Beat, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022. He was born May 24, 1940, the son of Henry L. and Barbara M. (Heitz) Beat at Murdock. A lifetime resident of Kingman and Sedgwick counties, he joined the Kansas Air National Guard and learned aeronautical electronics. He worked for many years at Cessna Aircraft until retirement.
He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.
On Nov. 14, 1974, Gene married Marjorie Appel. She died in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Barbara; wife, Marjorie; brothers, Robert, Gerald, Ernest and Leo; and sisters, Alice Claven, and Dorothy Dix.
Eugene is survived by his brother, Alvin of Wichita; sister, Jane Bailie of Bridgman, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Wulf-Ast Mortuary chapel in Garden Plain. Rosary was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, followed by the funeral Mass at St. Louis Church in Waterloo. The burial was at St. Louis Cemetery, Waterloo.
