GODDARD – The Eisenhower Tigers girls basketball team beat Wichita North 32-24 to open their season on Friday, Dec. 3. The game was part of the AVCTL/City League Challenge and was played at Koch Arena on the campus of Wichita State.
Tigers head coach Matt Brumley said it wasn’t the prettiest win, with both teams shooting a low percentage.
“That place is really, really tough when girls are not used to it,” he said. “So we had hoped that our shooting percentage would be a little bit better, but defensively, the girls were locked in and played really well.”
Junior Taylor Burkholder and sophomore Carly Dameron led the offense with 8 points apiece.
“Carly is an inside presence. She had 11 rebounds, which is awesome, and about four blocks, which is awesome. We just need her to score a little bit more, which will come. She’s talented and gifted enough that it’ll get there,” Brumley said.
The Tigers hosted Salina Central on Tuesday, Dec. 7, and will host Salina South on Friday, Dec. 10, both starting at around 6 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 14, the team travels to Andover.
