A hands-on performance in GP

ABOVE: Garden Plain Middle School students use sign language to perform the national anthem at last Friday’s Garden Plain High School varsity football game. New elective opportunities for middle school students were introduced this year, and one of the classes is sign language. Students taking this class spend nine weeks learning some of the basics of sign language. The current class has mastered the alphabet, numbers, greetings, manners, animals, colors, sports, question words, and basic conversation skills. This group of students, all of whom are in the seventh grade, also can sign the Pledge of Allegiance. BELOW: The GPMS students in the sign language class are, from left, Conley Winn, Xander Grow, Cate Dugan, Vivian Albert, Siddalea Garson, Brant Long, Lauren Brittain, Cally Koester and River Reel.
