Roundup: Cross country teams run at Wellington

The Eisenhower Tigers, Goddard Lions and Clearwater Indians all ran at the Wellington Invitational, held Saturday at Hargis Creek.
Eisenhower turned in the best team performance, with the Tigers’ girls coming in first and the boys taking second. It was a small meet, with only six full teams in the varsity boys 5K race, and three teams in the varsity girls 5K.
The Goddard boys placed fourth, while the Lions did not enter a full girls team. Clearwater split its squad on Saturday, with some runners at Wellington and others at Wamego to compete on the course that will host the 4A State race.
Logan Libel of Eisenhower placed second in the boys 5K with a time of 17:48.9, while teammates Max Santillan and James Richburg were fifth and ninth, respectively. The Tigers’ top seven runners all were in the top 20.
Goddard’s Olivia Brownwell was the lone Lion to run in girls’ varsity. She turned in a very good performance, taking second with a time of 22:24.9. Six of Eisenhower’s top seven finished better than 20th. Ashtyn Koeppan, Ninna Nelson and Brooke Kasprick were fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, while Lainie Burkhart was ninth.

Indians compete at Wamego

Clearwater’s top runners were in Wamego on Saturday getting a look at the 4A State meet course. The Clearwater boys fielded a full squad and finished 15th overall. The boys and girls races were big, with more than 100 runners in each race. Mason Seiter had the top finish at 49th.
Just two girls competed. Hayley Trotter again showed she is among the top runners in 4A, placing second with a time of 20:04.2.

Colts run at Emporia

The Campus Colts took part in their second meet of the season on Saturday in Emporia.
The Colts’ boys team earned an 11th-place finish out of 14 teams. A couple of more schools did not field full teams.
Freshman Brody Bloom and senior Paul Sevart were the Colts’ top runners, as both finished in the top 30. Anna Corbett was the top runner for the Colts’ girls, which did not field a full team.

Junior, sophomore girls pace Cheney

The Cheney Cardinals competed last Thursday at Hesston in a meet that had runners compete by grade only. Team scores were not kept.
The Cheney girls looked good, with their best performances coming from the junior and sophomore classes. Abbye Hudson took second in the junior race. She had the Cardinals’ best time, finishing in 23:32.9. Kinslee and Tatum Ingrim turned in top-10 performances in the sophomore race, and Lakin Green was 13th. Taelyn Hock placed 15th in the freshman race.
