Virginia Roth


Virginia S. (Estes) Roth, 81, of Conway Springs, died Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice-Ascension Via Christi St Francis, Wichita.
Virginia was born July 19, 1939, at Aurora, Mo., to Gwyn Leroy “Gabe” Estes and Mamie Sue (Phillips) Estes. She started school in Carthage, Mo., and moved with her family to Conway Springs in 1946. She attended Conway Springs public schools and graduated from Conway Springs High School with the class of 1957. She continued her education at American Business College and began a secretarial career working for Larry Day Auto Service in 1958.
Virginia was united in marriage to Edward Leo Roth on Nov. 28, 1959, in Conway Springs. They made their first home 2-1/2 miles west of Conway Springs until moving to a farm one mile east of Milton in 1962. They later moved back to Ed’s farmstead home in 1974.
Virginia began working at USD 356 for a half-day in the high school and a half-day for the superintendent in 1967. In 1978, she began full-time employment for the district office. Ed died Oct. 14, 2006. Virginia later retired from full-time service in July 2010 and continued on a part-time basis until July 2013. She also worked part-time for Ebersole Mortuary in Conway Springs during her retirement years.
Virginia was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway Springs, and the Altar Society. She was active in the local BPW organization and had served as president. Virginia was also active in the Conway Springs Cardinals Booster Club and was a past member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Audra Benge.
Virginia is survived by her children, Gene Roth and his wife Janice of Tulsa, Okla., Carol Benge and her husband Terry of Conway Springs, and Larry Roth and his wife Nancy of Sedgwick; two brothers, Leroy Estes of Joplin, Mo., and Marvin Estes of Wichita; one sister, Anna Murphy of Conway Springs; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1, and funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway Springs, with Father Thomas Hoisington as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conway Springs.
