Golf roundup: Cheney does well at Marion-Hillsboro

The Cheney Cardinals played in the 36-hole Marion County Invitational last Friday, winning the Marion 18-hole tournament with a score of 326, edging Sterling by one stroke. Sterling shot 328 to beat the Cardinals by four strokes at Hillsboro Municipal Golf Course.
The teams have become very familiar recently, with Sterling topping Cheney by three strokes at Cherry Oaks early last week.
Harrison Middleton of Cheney shot 71 for a one-stroke victory at Hillsboro. He shot 74 to take second at Marion, coming in two strokes off the pace. Middleton, Ethan Cokely, Keegan O’Shea and Aiden Lynch were in the top seven at Marion Country Club. Cokely, O’Shea and Owen Ast placed in the top 10 at Hillsboro.

Tigers, Lions golf at Tex Consolver

The Eisenhower Tigers placed fourth and the Goddard Lions were ninth at the 11-team Eisenhower Invitational, held last Thursday at Tex Consolver Golf Course, the home course for the Tigers and Lions.
The Tigers’ Emery Kaylor and Tyler Hardtafer both had top-10 finishes. Kaylor, a junior tied for sixth, while freshman Hardtafer took ninth. Carson Wright finished in a five-way tie for 10th.
The Lions were led by junior Logan Ashford, who tied Eisenhower’s Parker Steven and another golfer at 28th.

Colts golf at league tourney

The Campus Colts placed seventh in Monday’s Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. I tournament.
Conner Creason had the low score for the Colts, shooting 109. Campus took just four golfers to the tournament.
The Colts sent a partial squad to Winfield last week, with Brogan Godwin, Curtis Zimmerman and Laken Herndon competing.

Sterling edges Cheney at Cherry Oaks

Sterling topped Cheney by 3 strokes at Monday’s Cheney Invitational at Cherry Oaks Golf Club. Sterling won the tournament with a team score of 326.
Clearwater shot 395 and placed eight out of nine teams.
Harrison Middleton shot 71 to place second, and teammate Keegan O’Shea tied with Clearwater’s Christian Hastings for eighth place.

Teams compete at league, regionals

On Tuesday, Cheney was set to play in the Central Plains League meet at Medicine Lodge, while Clearwater was to play in the AVCTL Div. IV meet at Cherry Oaks. Clearwater has been idle for the past week.
Eisenhower and Goddard were back at Tex Consolver on Tuesday for the AVCTL Div. II tournament.
Results from those tournaments were not available at press time Tuesday night.
Regional action will be next Monday. Campus will be at the 6A regional in Garden City. In 5A, Goddard and Eisenhower will golf in the Andover regional at Crestview Country Club. Clearwater will go to the 4A regional at Wellington Golf Course. Cheney will compete in the 3A regional at Kingman.
State tournaments will be May 24-25.
