Eugene F. “Whitey” White, Jr., 75, of Argonia, passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, at Patterson Health Center, Anthony.
Whitey was born April 29, 1945, at Chester, Penn., the son of Eugene Francis White, Sr., and Julia Ray (Lyons) White. He was raised in Chester and graduated from Chester High School with the class of 1963. Whitey was a great-grandson of Eugene F. White, a prominent businessman in Chester who owned E.F. White Funeral Homes & Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, Penn. Whitey was following in the footsteps of the family business and attended Temple University for mortuary science but chose to change his major to automotive technician to have a work-life balance, graduating in 1967.
Whitey was an avid mechanic who enjoyed building and tinkering. His choice of the mechanical trade allowed him the opportunity to work for Chester Upland School District in Chester until he retired in 1990.
He spent vacations traveling with his family to Conway Springs for many years to visit Carol’s family and always dreamed of owning land there. Upon his retirement in 1990, he and his family moved from Chester to Argonia, where he spent most of his days enjoying the warm Kansas breeze on his front porch. He loved listening to country music and was a huge fan of George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash.
Whitey is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol (Garcia) White; daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Glenn Carroll, and son, Eugene F. White III; five grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by a number of other relatives and many friends.
Graveside service was conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, in Argonia Cemetery, Argonia. Arrangements were by Ebersole Mortuary, Conway Springs. Online condolences and guest book are available at www.ebersolemortuary.com.
