Baseball tourney adds games, prize money

GODDARD – Organizers of the SummerBall Showdown have increased the pool of prize money and added to the guaranteed number of games.
The nonprofit group running the tournament announced that team compensation is increasing to $30,000 total. First place will remain $20,000. The runner-up will get $6,500. Semifinal losers will receive $1,750 each. Quarterfinal losers will receive equipment.
After speaking with many East Coast and West Coast teams, it was decided that changes were needed to make the tournament more attractive to teams traveling longer distances. The tournament is moving to a three-game guarantee at the request of travel teams who want to be sure the trip is worthwhile.
The tournament also will add a “Baseball Around the Clock” promotion, an idea that was part of the National Baseball Congress in years past.
Team entry fees will increase slightly, to $1,400, if registration is received by April 16. After that, registration will be $1,500. Teams may enter online at
