Cheney band receives donation

The Cheney High School marching band was surpised with a $500 donation from Charlie’s Car Wash.

CHENEY – The band program at Cheney High School is the recipient of a Charlie’s Car Wash (former Green Lantern) Excellence in Education donation. The $500 donation was awarded in December.
The unexpected gift came from a nomination made by Kent Durant, a former band parent, said band director Travis Johnson. The money will be used for marching expenses next fall, including costs associated with the marching band field show.
“You don’t expect these $500 checks to show up every day, so it was fantastic,” Johnson said.
He said these types of gifts play an important role in music education.
“It’s extra on top of our school budget. The really successful programs need these extra funds to do the extra activities and to be able to travel,” he said.
The band’s primary fundraiser is a golf tournament held every May.
