CONWAY SPRINGS – Drama students at Conway Springs High School will put on two performances of the comedy “Order Up!” this weekend in the CSHS auditorium.
Shows will be at 7 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets must be purchased in advance. The show is reserved seating, and attendees can pick their seats when purchasing their tickets. Attendance is being limited to 25 percent of capacity. Groups will be socially distanced and masks are required.
The comedy takes place in a fast-food restaurant.
“It pokes fun at the different types of issues and the customers and employees. Mostly the customers,” said director and CSHS teacher Tamara Salisbury. “I think the show is really funny. Hopefully people are ready to laugh.”
In this quick succession of quirky customers, the “Order Up!” restaurant takes on everything from weird food allergies to fanatical health inspectors, from the fear of eating to someone wanting to hide in the restroom, and on and on. Meanwhile, the restaurant’s three employees look for a moment of sanity.
Auditions were held at the end of September, and students got the show ready in just a few weeks.
“It was a little shorter than our normal prep time. We were a little unsure of schedule,” Salisbury said.
The show features nine cast members and seven crew members. A number of cast members will be playing multiple parts, which is something that the drama department normally does not do. However, performers will have masks on throughout the show. To aid in sound, all performers will be wearing microphones. A limited number of microphones impacted the size of the cast.
Salisbury said the show takes place in a modern-day restaurant, so that cast members’ masks reflect the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cast members include Owen Balman, Dakota Black, Caitlyn May, Averie Stull and Rylie Thompason as customers, and Molly Bender, Sydney Boese, Nathan Doffing and Kara Zoglmann as employees.
Crew members are Brynn Andra, Robin Heimerman, Dylan Martin, Adrienne May, Taryn Starks, Faith Stuhlsatz and Hannah Zoglmann.
