Cardinals, Indians and Owls fall at volleyball quarterfinals

The road State was a short one for the three local teams that qualified for State volleyball tournaments.

The Clearwater Indians and Garden Plain Owls suffered home losses on Tuesday, and the Cheney Cardinals lost at Smoky Valley Wednesday in a match delayed by a day. This year’s State tournaments have an altered format. The three rounds of pool play on Friday were eliminated and replaced by single, head-to-head, best-of-five matchups based on geography.

In Class 2A, Garden Plain won the first two sets against Hillsboro but lost to the Trojans in five sets, 25-13, 25-22, 19-25, 19-25, 11-15.

In 4A, Clearwater hosted No. 1 Andale and lost in three sets, 18-25, 18-25, 18-25.

In 3A, Cheney won one set at Smoky Valley but lost 17-25, 18-25, 26-24, 19-25.
