HAYSVILLE – The recently-completed expansion at Prichard Animal Hospital has more than doubled the space available at the local veterinary clinic owned by Dr. Robert Prichard.

This was a major project, expanding the clinic from 2,000 square feet in the original building to about 5,500 square feet now.

“We were pretty cramped. We wanted to offer more services, also,” Prichard said.

With the expansion, the hospital now has an expanding waiting area – a benefit in the COVID-19 era. They went from two to four examination rooms, and tripled the size of the surgery room.

“My surgery room was just a closet,” Prichard said.

Animal boarding has been added, and they may add daycare in the future. There are nine runs, and room for nine more.
The expansion also gives the hospital space for grooming, which they dropped because of space reasons a year after Prichard purchased the business in 2006.

“We wanted to grow and expand because we’ve been so busy,” Prichard said.

The project began on May 1, 2019, and was supposed to take six months. But there were issues and delays, and Prichard changed general contractors in the middle of the project. Everything was finished at the end of this May.

“The new general contractor was awesome,” Prichard said. In the end, however, things turned out well. “We’re happy with the results and I appreciate the second general contractor who finished the project.”

The original building was constructed in 1991. Prichard made room for the expanded building and new parking lot after purchasing the lot to the west. Originally built as a Sonic, the former restaurant building also housed Johnny B’s twice and Rene’s Mexican Food.

Prichard purchased the clinic in 2006 after working with other doctors in Wichita and Arkansas City as well as in Illinois.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Prichard and his staff have not been able to hold an open house as they wanted. That’s something they hope to do in the near future. In the meantime, Prichard said they have gotten lots of feedback from customers.

Prichard Animal Hospital is open 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday. In addition to Dr. Prichard, Dr. Jessica Lang works part-time at the hospital. Learn more on their Facebook or online at www.prichardanimalhospital.com.
