Volunteers have begun to prime the north side of the Dooley building in Garden Plain. The city is planning a mural on the wall as a first step in revitalizing the downtown area, which was identified in a 2019 city survey as a desire by residents. Council member Jenny Zoglman said Garden Plain High School student Hannah Kitzmann is creating the design, which is being kept under wraps for now. “We’re trying to do what we can with what have right now to spruce up the city,” Zoglman said. She has been leading the city efforts on the mural. Fisher Lumber has donated paint and supplies, and more volunteers will be out this weekend to finish priming the wall. A completion date has not yet been determined, so stay tuned.
