Cardinals and Colts compete at State cheer

The Cheney Cardinals and Campus Colts cheer teams took part Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Game Day Spirit Showcase sponsored by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.

The third annual competition took place at the Topeka-Stormont Vail Events Center (formerly the Kansas Expocenter) in Topeka. Ninety-three teams across all six classification took part, competing by classification.

The Cheney Cardinals placed third in Class 3A. The Cardinals won the title in 2017 and 2018, and were the top-ranked squad out of 17 teams after Saturday’s preliminary round. The Cardinals also were busy Friday night, cheering on the Cheney High football team at its playoff game in Andale.

The Campus Colts competed in Class 6A and finished 16th in the preliminary round. There were 23 schools competing, and only six advanced to the finals.
