Obituary: Jennella Stitt

Jennella M. (Smith) Stitt, 88, of Milton, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, at Wichita.
Jennella Marie (Smith) Stitt was born March 8, 1931, on the family farm southwest of Conway Springs to Edd Smith and Mary Lou Ethel (West) Smith. She attended a rural school before attending Conway Springs High School.
Jennella was united in marriage to Kenneth Gene Stitt on June 13, 1948 at Wellington. They made their first home with Kenneth’s parents for a year before moving to the Argonia area. A year later, they moved to the family farm in 1951, where they farmed and had a dairy. Jennella had a big garden and was a farmer’s wife, helping with whatever needed to be done.
She continued her education at the age of 50 and became a licensed practical nurse. She worked at Harper Hospital for five years before going to work at Spring View Manor in Conway Springs for 20 years. She retired in 2005 as their director of nursing.
Jennella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Vernon, Alan, Eddie and Lloyd Smith; and five sisters, Roberta Smith, Dorothy Baird, Helen Smith, Louise Dukes and Maxine Dixon.
She was a member of the Milton United Methodist Church, Milton, and had been a Sunday school teacher and served the church in many capacities. She was a former 4-H leader as well as being a consistent presence in the school lives of her children by volunteering to help with any and all activities in which they were involved.
Jennella is survived by three sons, Kenneth C. Stitt and Kim Walker of Milton, Brad Stitt and wife Teresa of Milton, and Patrick Smith and wife Shirley of Joelton, Tenn.; two daughters, Vickie Struthers and husband Wes of Clearwater, and Cathy Fooshee and husband Randall of Derby; three sisters, Betty Blasdel of Wichita, Fern DeStasio of Hollywood, Fla., and Norma Jones of La Porte, Texas; eight grandchildren, Justin Struthers and wife Sarah, Jennie Bracken and husband Guy, Jerod Struthers and wife Marissa, Cody Struthers and wife Sami, Katie Berry and husband Gage, Garrett Fooshee and wife Paige, Sharayah Riedner and husband Con, and Andréa Okruhlik and husband Jacob; seven great-grandchildren, Ace, Addie, Tuff, Sage, Wyatt, Reata and Graham; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
When summing up the impact Jennella had on family and friends, her kids replied, “She loved us well.”
Funeral service was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Milton United Methodist Church, Milton, with the Rev. Mike Howard, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Eden Cemetery, Milton.
