Saints shut out Aviators

The Haysville Aviators suffered their second loss of the National Baseball Congress World Series, getting shut out 8-0 in eight innings by the GameDay (Colo.) Saints. The game started at 11 a.m. Sunday at Wichita State University.

The loss pretty much ends the Aviators’ hopes of advancing in this year’s NBC. Haysville will play again in Pool B on Tuesday. The Aviators’ opponent and start time will be determined after the other Pool B game. That contest features the Great Bend Bat Cats and the Santa Barbara Foresters, who play at 7 p.m. in Sunday’s feature game.

Sunday’s game was the second shut out loss for Haysville in this year’s tournament.

The Saints took a 4-0 lead midway through the game, scoring 2 runs in the fourth inning and another 2 runs in the fifth. They had a 3-run seventh inning, and added another score in the bottom of the eighth.

The Saints outhit the Aviators 11-5. Jimmy Cramer led Haysville with two hits. Starting pitcher Ben Ludwig took the loss for the Aviators.

The Aviators will finish up pool play another feature game appearance. Haysville will take on fellow Sunflower Collegiate League member Great Bend Bat Cats at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Bat Cats are 1-1, with an 11-1 win over the Gameday Saints and a 6-1 loss to Santa Barbara.
