Obituary: Marlene Hartman

Marlene K. Hartman, 78, of Conway Springs, died Monday, April 29, 2019, at Wichita.
Marlene Kay (Weber) Hartman was born Nov. 12, 1940, at Conway Springs, to William and Josephine (Jansen) Weber. She departed this life April 29, 2019 at Wichita, Kansas at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 7 days.
Marlene moved with her family to Wichita as a small child, where she attended a nearby rural school. She attended Christ the King Catholic School and one year at Schulte before returning to Christ the King her fifth-grade year. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1958 and soon began began working in a physician’s office lab for Dr. F.J. Hagan for 2-1/2 years.
Marlene was united in marriage to Everett Allen Hartman on Oct. 10, 1959, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Wichita. They made their first home one mile west of Conway Springs. In 1962, they purchased their farm two miles north of town, where they raised their family. They continued to farm and dairy until 1992.
Marlene and Everett began custom harvesting in the spring of 1986 and cut wheat from southern Oklahoma to Kansas, Colorado and Montana for 18 years. They retired and had a farm sale in 2004. She and Everett later moved into town in 2009 and made their home at 217 S. 12th Street. Everett died on Jan. 30, 2016.
Marlene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway Springs, the Altar Society and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.
Marlene was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Thomas Weber; one sister, Bonnie Jean Nesser; and two infant sons, Joseph and Matthew Hartman.
Marlene is survived by one son, Dale Hartman and wife Dawn of Conway Springs; three daughters: Becky Matzen and husband Jeff of Conway Springs, Zelda Girard and husband Chris of Kingman, and Sheila Hartman Welch of Wichita; four brothers: William Weber of Wichita, Kenneth Weber and John Weber, both of Halstead, and David Weber of Colwich; three sisters: Laverne Blasi of Wichita, Mary Jo Heiger of Andale, and Rita Moss of Hudson Oaks, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019, and Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2019, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway Springs, with Father Stuart M. Smeltzer as Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conway Springs.
