Obituary: Kristan K. Mays

Kristan Kay Mays was born July 9, 1961, in Wellington. She grew up in Anthony and attended Chaparral High School. She moved to Germany with her family and newborn daughter, September, where she finished her education. She lived in Hawaii for a short time before returning to Kansas.
She married Tom Mays and this union was blessed with two children: Shawn and Amber. Tom worked in the oilfield, so the family moved frequently. While living in Shreveport, La., Kristan started her professional career as an oil and gas lease analyst. The family later moved to Houston, Texas, where she continued her career, which eventually moved her to Denver.
In 2010, Kristan had to retire due to her health battles. She moved back to Argonia. During her time in Argonia, she loved spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. She was an animal lover, of cats especially, and was always taking in strays. She also enjoyed dancing.
Kristan was a very loving and kind person, but also very opinionated and truthful. She was strong-willed, dedicated, stubborn, brave and courageous, and had no problem telling you what she thought or how she felt. She loved all of her family fiercely and they all knew it.
On Jan. 26, 2019, Kristan passed away in Anthony at the age of 57, after her brave and courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her daughter, September Porter.
Kristan will be deeply missed by her children, Shawn Mays and Amber Mays; her parents, Karen and Jerry Hall; grandchildren, Milla Pavlik, Jacob Foote, and Julian, Gabriel and Hailee Rodriguez, and Austin Mays; brothers, James Porter and wife, Lisa, and children, Cameron, Blake and Evan, and Terry Earles and wife, Pam, and son, Ethan; her beloved cats; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Cornerstone Church in Argonia with Pastor Charlie Jenkins officiating. Musical selections “Everything (. . .Is Never Quite Enough)” and “I Will Remember You” were played. Amber Mays gave a special reading.
Burial followed in the Argonia Cemetery. Casket bearers were Shawn Mays, Amber Mays, James Porter, Terry Earles, Milla Pavlik, Jacob Foote, Julian Rodriguez, Gabe Rodriguez, Hailee Rodriguez and Austin Mays.
Memorials in memory of Kristan may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
