Obituary: James Taton

James Arthur Taton, of Argonia, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at Botkin Care and Rehab in Wellington at the age of 88.
James was born the son of Elmer and Emma (Kuhns) Taton on Sunday, Sept. 28, 1930, on the family farm three miles north of Argonia. He was the youngest of 10 children. James graduated from Argonia High School. He was a member of the Friends Church.
James served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He returned home to the family farm where he had lived since he was 7 years old.
On Feb. 12, 1957, James and Marcella Mae Florentin were united in marriage in Bentonville, Ark. Together they celebrated 62 of years of marriage. James and Marcella settled down and had three children. James raised wheat, cattle and hogs. He also worked for his brother in Wichita. He was not only known as a great farmer but as a musician in the James Taton Country Gentlemen Band. The whole family contributed in the band, with Marcella on the drums and James and his son, Danny, on the guitar. They played all over Kansas and Oklahoma. James was a great tease and joker. He loved to play jokes on people.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella Taton; son, Danny James Taton (Debbie); daughters, Bonny Jane Crow (Craig), and Lisa Lynn Burger (Rod); grandchildren, Dallas James Taton (Heather), Denver James Taton (Allison), Devin Jeffry Taton (Jerika), Denim Joseph Taton (Karyn), Christina Gonzales (Christopher), Kevin Crow, Kyle Burger (Carley), Heather Burger; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Olen Taton and his wife, Betty; sisters-in-law, Lyla Taton and Dorothy Taton; and a host of friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest, Raymond, Murrell Jr., and Ralph; sisters, Ruth Smith, Velma Kollmorgen and Beulah Sevier.
Memorial services for James will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, at Argonia Friends Church, Argonia.
Private interment with military honors will follow at Argonia Cemetery in Argonia.
A memorial fund has been established in his loving memory with the Argonia Friends Church or Good Shepherd Hospice of Wellington. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
