Haven Wildcat Classic – Cheney and Garden Plain
This is a tough field. Garden Plain (7-2) is the top team in Class 2A, but is seeded No. 6 here. Meanwhile, undefeated Cheney (10-0 at time of seeding) is the No. 2 seed. Both teams are in the same half of the bracket and could face off in the second round.
Garden Plain takes on No. 3 Rose Hill (9-1) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. In the next game, Cheney opens against No. 7 Andale (4-4) at 6 p.m. Thursday. The other half of the bracket features No. 1 Nickerson (10-0) vs. No. 8 Kingman (4-6), and No. 4 Haven (8-2) vs. No. 5 Moundridge (8-2), also on Thursday. Second-round games are Friday, and the final round is Saturday. The championship game is at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Glacier’s Edge, Emporia – Eisenhower
Eisenhower is the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 Wichita Northwest at 7 p.m. Thursday. The winner will advance to play either No. 1 Derby or No. 8 Shawnee Mission North at 7:45 p.m. Friday. The losing teams will play at 3:15 p.m. Friday. The other half of the bracket features No. 2 Topeka High vs. No. 7 Emporia, and No. 3 Seaman vs. No. 6 Shawnee Mission South. Final-round games are Saturday starting at 11 a.m., with the championship at 2 p.m.
Steve Shepherd’s Tournament, Sedgwick – Clearwater
This tournament was scheduled to start on Tuesday, Jan. 22, but the threat of winter weather forced a change. Now games will be played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-26. The No. 8 Clearwater Indians (1-8) will tip off against No. 1 Inman (9-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday. The winner will play Thursday against either No. 4 Fairfield (6-4) or No. 5 Chaparral (3-7) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the main gym. The losing teams will play at 7:30 p.m. p.m. in the auxiliary gym. The other half of the bracket features No. 2 Sedgwick (6-3) vs. No. 7 Belle Plain (2-8) and No. 3 Canton-Galva (6-4) vs. No. 6 Independent (2-7). All second-round games are Friday, and final-round games start at 1 p.m. Saturday. The title game is at 5:30 p.m.
Mulvane Wildcat Classic – Conway Springs
This year’s tourney is a round-robin format, with six teams in the field. Conway Springs – the 2018 champion – is in Pool A with Arkansas City and Mulvane. Pool B includes Winfield, Collegiate and Wichita North.
Conway Springs opened the tournament with a 65-43 victory over Arkansas City on Monday. They will face Mulvane at 7:40 p.m. Thursday. A Cardinals’ victory would put them in Saturday’s title game. Saturday’s schedule has the third-place game at 1 p.m., second place at 2:45 p.m., and the championship at 4:30 p.m.
El Dorado – Campus
The Campus Colts are the No. 7 seed at the Lady Cat Classic and had a 1-6 record at the time of seedings. They will face No. 2 Mill Valley (9-1) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. A win would mean a 6 p.m. Friday game against either No. 3 Circle (8-2) or No. 6 Gardner-Edgerton (1-6). The losing teams will face off at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The other half of the bracket has No. 1 Maize South (8-0) vs. No. 8 El Dorado (0-10) and No. 4 Augusta (6-3) vs. No. 5 Wichita East (5-5). Saturday’s final-round games begin at 1:30 p.m.
