Obituary: John Ward, Sr.

John K. Ward, Sr., 65, of Conway Springs, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi – St. Francis, Wichita.
He was born Aug. 16, 1952, at Wichita, to Roy Francis Ward and Opal June (Benbow) Ward. John grew up in the Conway Springs community, where he attended Conway Springs public schools. He graduated from Conway Springs High School with the class of 1970.
John was united in marriage to Patricia Kay Ravenstien on Dec. 2, 1972, at Conway Springs. They made their home in Conway Springs, where they raised their family of three children.
John first worked at Garvey Grain Elevator in Conway Springs. He then worked for Mid Kansas Construction in Wichita before working for BOBCO Construction. In 1990, he became employed by the city of Conway Springs, where he served as the maintenance supervisor for many years. He retired from the city after 26 years on Feb. 1, 2015.
He was a member and Elder of the First Christian Church of Conway Springs and served as a board member for the USD 356 Board of Education. John served as a member of the Conway Springs Volunteer Fire Department and also played a role in the Conway Springs Summer Recreation Program as a coach and umpire for several years.
John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ray and Glenn Ward; one sister, Shirley Cane; and his daughter, Jennifer Berry.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; two sons, John Boy Ward and Josh Ward of Conway Springs; one brother, Larry Ward of Columbia Falls, Mont.; one sister, Nancy Lange of Conway Springs; six grandchildren, Trey, Rachel, Ben, Dalton, Aly and Eastlynn; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
No service will be held. Cremation has been effected. Private inurnment will be in Conway Springs Cemetery, Conway Springs, at a later date.
