Obituary: John Baum

John Charles Baum passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 9, at his home in Arlington, Texas, with his wife by his side.
His funeral was at Fielder Church, Arlington,at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14. Graveside service was at DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, at 2 p.m.

John was born Nov. 12, 1939, in Wichita. He was the first son of John George and Marjorie Baum. John grew up in and graduated high school in Conway Springs. He graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree, along with a master’s in engineering at the University of Arizona and a master’s degree in accounting at the University of Texas in Arlington.
He met his wife, Karen, at the University of Texas at Austin. He was a second lieutenant in the Air Force and served as a meteorologist for two years in California. He worked many years as an engineer at LTV in Grand Prairie, and then as a certified public accountant for PriceWaterHouseCoopers for 30 years, including six months in Qatar. He later retired from their Dallas office in 2005.
He was a proud member of Fielder Church since 1994. His passion was riding motorcycles and he was a member of the Christian Motorcycles Association.
By God’s grace, he was a generous giver and able to help others and was a blessing to all. He will truly be missed.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Karen; his children, Julie Messinger, and Jason Baum and his wife, Susan; his brother, Tom Baum; his grandchildren, Nathan and Morgan Messinger, Sydney and Evan Baum; and his nephew, Eric Baum and his wife Alicia, grandniece Lily and grandnephew Max.
