On Monday, July 9, the Goddard City Planning Commission approved a site plan for a Braum’s Ice Cream & Dairy Story, as well as a zoning variance allowing for a larger and taller sign.
Those approvals bring Braum’s one step closer to building in the Goddard Galleria area, north of Walmart and just to the west of 183rd Street on Kellogg Drive. But city officials have cautioned that they don’t represent an absolute guarantee that the restaurant will be built.
The sign, as approved by the planning commission, will be 35 feet tall, and topped by a giant ice cream cone. In an application for the variance, a development firm representing Braum’s said that the large, monument-style sign will fit into the overall plans for the Goddard Galleria.

“We feel the proposed sign is appropriate for its location within a major commercial district and will have a negligible effect on adjoining property owners,” the application states.
Also at the meeting, the planning commission approved the final development plan for a Planned Unit Development (PUD) at Dove Estates.
