Eisenhower, Goddard soccer teams advance; Campus falls

Class 5A and 6A regional soccer tournaments began Tuesday. Teams in the West and and East regions for both classes were seeded 1-16, then split into four-team regionals.

Here’s a look at things after Thursday’s  regional championships.

Class 5A – Region 4

One goal was all that was needed for No. 5 Kapaun-Mt. Carmel (12-2-2) to beat No. 4 Eisenhower (13-3-0) at EHS Thursday. The KMC Crusaders controlled much of the second half, and scored in a sequence where they had three other quality tries to score. The Tigers end the season 14-4-0.

No. 4 Eisenhower, the top team in this bracket, scored six first-half goals en route to a 10- victory over No. 13 Great Bend. The Tigers multiple goal scorers, led by Payton Lawson’s three goals.

Class 5A – Region 2

No. 7 Goddard build a 3-0 lead on the way to a 3-1 home victory over No. 10 Wichita Heights, but face a much bigger challenge on Thursday play at No. 2 Maize, a perennial soccer power. The host Eagles dominated the game, beating the Lions 8-0. Goddard ends the season 10-6-2.
