Barbara “Jo Ann” Taylor, 86, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and retired BOE 259 elementary secretary, passed away March 3, 2018.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Smith Mortuary, Derby. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Living Word Christian Church, 201 N Derby Ave, Derby. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Vinita Cemetery, southwest of Cheney.
Jo Ann was born June 4, 1931, in Wichita to Joe and Isabel (Meadow-Castor) Padgett. She attended a country school through seventh grade, and eighth grade through high school in Cheney. She was valedictorian of her 1949 class.
Jo Ann lived in Kansas, South Dakota, California and Washington. She returned to Derby in 1968 where she resided for the rest of her life. There, she worked for USD 259 as secretary at Funston Elementary for 14 years and Stanley Elementary for another 13 years before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Troilynn Ann Hurn; and husbands, Troy Hurn and Donald Travis. Survivors include her husband, Linford Taylor of Derby; son, Tracy Hurn of Murdock; granddaughter, Amber (Bryan) Dennett of Salina; five great-grandchildren, Jackson, Mia and Miles Dennett, and Faith and Christian Hanson; and sister, Evelynn Pennington.
