Margaret A. Orth, 81, formerly of 1222 W. 120th Ave. N, Conway Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, at Grassland Estates, Wichita.
She was born April 14, 1936, near Mt. Vernon, Kansas, the oldest daughter of Claude Ivan Kyle and Delta Willetta (Brown) Kyle. Margaret lost her father at the age of 5 and went to live with her grandparents. She attended school at Cheney and graduated from Cheney High School with the class of 1954. She began working for the local telephone company as a switchboard operator in Cheney.
Margaret was united in marriage to Werner Carl “Pete” Orth on Nov. 12, 1955, at Conway Springs. They made their home on the Orth family farm, northwest of Conway Springs, where they raised their family of five children. Margaret also worked at Spring View Manor in housekeeping for three years. Pete died June 19, 2011.
Margaret was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Conway Springs.
She also was preceded in death by her mother and one sister, Doris Kramer.
Margaret is survived her children, Colleen Evans of Osage City Jean Gonzales of Wichita, Julia Crawford of Renton, Wash., Michael Orth of Haysville, and Matthew Orth of Wellington; one sister, Wilma Jean Purser of Austin, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway Springs, with Father Stuart M. Smeltzer as celebrant. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, also at the church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conway Springs.
