Obituary: Lawrence ‘Larry’ George Gibson

A funeral service for Lawrence “Larry” George Gibson, 60, of Lawton will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, at Lawton First Assembly of God, Lawton, Okla.

As of July 29, 2017, Larry is no longer living in Lawton, but is currently in his Heavenly home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Larry was born on October 26, 1956, in Coffeyville, Kan. The family moved to Lawton when Larry was a small child, where he attended school, graduating from Eisenhower High School in 1975. He then served his country in the United States Navy.

Later, he worked in the oil fields and returned to Kansas, where he worked for the Rubbermaid Company in Winfield for many years. During this time, he attended Southwestern College in Winfield, receiving his bachelor’s degree. He also attended Friends University, receiving his master’s degree. He married Denise Marie Floyd and they had one son, Chris Gibson. Larry and Chris moved to Lawton in 2016. He enjoyed woodcarving and fishing. Larry was a member of the West Haysville Baptist Church in Haysville.

He is survived by his son, Chris Gibson, of the home; his mother, Cleo Mozelle Gibson, of the home; his brother, Mark Allen Gibson, of Tallahassee, Fla.; a step-brother, Lee Alan Gibson and wife, Gina, of Cache, Okla.; a step-sister, Janet Trahan and husband, Howard, of Walters, Okla.; an aunt, Avanelle Rankin, of Longton, Kan.; an uncle, Robert Wood, of Arizona, and a special aunt, Imajean Ledford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, George W. Wood, Jr., of Wichita; his step-father, Jack Gibson, of Lawton; his grandparents, George and Pansy Ficklin, of Coffeyville; his grandmother, Margaret Wood, of Chanute; his brother, Brian Gibson, of Norman, Okla.; his uncle Earl Ficklin, of Berryton, Kan.; and his aunt, Nancy Roark, of Winfield.
