Wanda J. (Sneed) Riggs, 89, formerly of Conway Springs, died Friday, July 7, 2017, at Main Street Villa, Cheney.
Wanda was born June 5, 1928, near Ashland, Kan., the daughter of John Raymond Sneed and Eda May (Guffey) Sneed. She moved with her family from Rosston, Okla., to a farm two miles south and one mile west of Conway Springs in August 1932. She attended the Spring Hill District 111 rural school through the eighth grade before attending Conway Springs public school. She was active in her youth in the local 4-H club. Wanda graduated from Conway Springs High School with the class of 1946. She began working at Cline’s Market in Conway Springs as a young woman. A year later she was employed by Raymond Cline at the Conway Springs Star Newspaper Office as a linotype operator.
Wanda was united in marriage to Ralph Edward Riggs on Sept. 18, 1949, at Conway Springs. To this union of marriage a son, Paul Edward, was born May 19, 1956. The family made their home at 417 W. Parallel in Conway Springs.
Wanda assisted her husband at Riggs Locker and OTASCO in Conway Springs. She returned to work for Jim Cline at the Conway Springs Star Office in 1984. She retired in 2010.
Wanda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Conway Springs and was active in Presbyterian Women. She was active in Dorcas Chapter # 157 O.E.S. Conway Springs, where she served in many offices. Wanda also was a member of the Mother’s Club, the Pricilla Club and BPW.
Wanda enjoyed her yard and garden. She and Ralph prided themselves maintaining a beautiful lawn and flower beds at their home in Conway Springs for many years.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, on Jan. 2, 1996, and her son, Paul, on Oct. 25, 2004. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Randall Sneed; and three sisters, LaVona Robinson, Nadine Riggs and Rama Grimm.
Wanda is survived by two grandsons: Andrew Riggs and his wife Gina of Cheney, and Charlie Riggs of Conway Springs; four great-grandchildren: Layne, Ashlyn, Mallory and Callen; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Trinity United Christian Church, Cheney, with Pastor Robin Colerick-Shinkle officiating. Graveside committal service was at 2 p.m. in Conway Springs Cemetery, Conway Springs.
