Karl John Koster, age 67, of Sunrise Beach, Mo., passed away Friday, June 30, 2017, at his home with friends and family around him. He was born Oct. 13, 1949, in Wichita, son of the late Martin and Marie (Rosenhagen) Koster, and grew up in nearby Cheney.
On May 10, 1980, in Topeka, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Martha Koster.
Karl served in the Kansas Army Reserves.
He was employed as an industrial engineer for Southwestern Bell, now known as AT&T. He worked in Kansas and Texas, retiring in 2001.
Karl was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Lake Ozark.
He enjoyed spending his retirement snow skiing, water skiing, traveling and sailing. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with friends and family as often as possible.
In addition to his wife, Martha, he is survived by his daughter, Heather Denman and husband Jason of Versailles, Mo.; grandsons, Hunter and Joshua Denman; brother, Kent Koster and wife Sandy of Cheney; two nieces; two nephews; and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donn Koster, and a niece.
A celebration of Karl’s life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, July 15, at the Yacht Club at Porta Cima in Sunrise Beach. Graveside service and inurnment will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, both in Cheney.
