Capturing a community: Local snaps photos of Garden Plain landscapes

Ethan Hays of Garden Plain has been capturing landscapes like this storm with his cell phone for about three years.

GARDEN PLAIN – Garden Plain resident Ethan Hays enjoys taking photos of landscapes and buildings in and around the city. He has been using his cell phone to snap artistic shots for about three years.

His favorite shot, he said, is of the train track leading toward the Garden Plain Coop. He has also captured a rainbow over a grain silo.

He has taken several atmospheric images of the Prairie Sunset Trail, which begins in Garden Plain and which he regularly jogs.

The trick to getting good results is simply “finding the right place to take pictures, and the right time, like when storms come rolling in,” he said. “Gotta love the clouds in small town Garden Plain.”

Hays said that looking for photo opportunities has changed the way he looks at his hometown.

“(I’m) trying to have people slow down once in a while, and stop and appreciate the little things in life – and show off the beauty of the little town,” he said.
