Fredrick “Rick” Melvin Jones, 72, of Wellington, passed away March 7, 2017, at Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita. He was a machinist for Plessey Welco, where he worked for 42 years. He retired in 2004.
Rick was born on July 19, 1944 in Norwich to Melvin Earl Jones and Mary Olive (Hettick) Jones. He was raised in Argonia and was a 1962 graduate of Argonia High School.
Rick married Carolyn Coon on Feb. 8, 1964, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anthony.
Rick was predeceased in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Jones of Wellington; four children, Felicia Massey and her husband Greg of Andover, Damon Jones and his wife Rose of Wichita, Danielle Shields and her husband Shane of Wellington, and Tony Jones of Derby; two brothers, Robert Jones and his wife Joyce of Cheney, and Ronald Jones of Kansas City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Jordan Cerminara, Ryan Jones, Devin Jones, Kaili Steele, Lindsey Jones, Samantha Jones, Sydney Shields, Triston Jones, Jared Shields, Gage Jones, and Emma Massey; and three great-grandchildren, Nolan Burns, Bella Jones, and Paislee Jones.
Funeral Services was held at the First Christian Church at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13. Pastor Bruce Washington officiated.
There was no visitation as cremation had taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in Rick’s name with the Wellington Humane Society and the Wellington Food Bank. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
